It's been another good week for Blues in Maine!

February's off to a good start, Blues-wise, here in Maine (especially if you ignore the fact that Ronnie Earl's gig was on Jan 30th!).

On Saturday January 30th, 2010 we ventured south to Freeport to see Ronnie Earl perform.
Words simply don't do a Ronnie Earl performance justice.
A note on his website says "Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters are expanding their tour schedule and are taking bookings in the Northeast."

He's gigging a little more often now, so check out his
performance dates and catch a gig.

On Monday February 1st we headed to Rockland and caught Matthew Stubbs & Sax Gordon, and had an excellent time, at the Time Out Pub. This was a CD release party and

This will have probably been the only time today, during the cold walk around Webster Park, that I actually felt awake.

Jan 1st - Minor Snowfall

I've been wanting to take a shot of Mount Pleasant Cemetery from this vantage point for some time. Since I'm usually driving and this is from I-95 I figure it's wise not to try to operate the camera and the car, while in traffic, at the same time. Since I was a passenger on January 1st I took advantage and got one decent shot out of the deal. Submitted to Shutterday for Your First Shot of 2010 theme.

I was a bit early on my way in to work Tuesday afternoon, so I drove around campus hoping to capture an interesting shot or two of the swirling snow.

The best opportunities to capture what I'd hoped happened while I was driving.

Indeed, this tree near Hitchner Hall was blown over by the wind (the weight of the snow on its branches contributed heavily - pun intended - to its downfall) while I was driving toward it.

It was fortunate that it missed hitting anything. There were a few cars off to the right and several lamp posts that could have been taken out. Since it's winter break, a snow day was called for campus and it was just plain effing cold, there wasn't anyone walking nearby when it fell. It was cool to watch, though. Probably good, though, that I wasn't wielding the camera while driving. I might have taken a few more photos, but while I was standing there another branch or two that got caught in the nearby trees fell. I figured I'd better scoot.

Some winter fog revisited

I really wish I'd had more time to go exploring in yesterday's fog. Alas, I was on my way to work and only had time for a couple of quick shots. Here's a different angle on a subject near the Orono/Veazie line that I also photographed in the fog about a year ago.

All I'm gonna say is that these guys can play. Just a little. Is that understated enough? Man, we had a good time at both of these shows!
