Alpha and Omega (or point A to point B)

My commute home last night started with the top picture and ended with the one just above. Since the light and shadows were really cool, I took some more photos of the back yard.

I think we just may have a white Christmas this year!

Shhhh... Baby's Sleeping

My niece and nephew. Gotta catch him being brotherly before he grows out of it (though he's got plenty of time before he becomes a teenager). Submitted to Moody Monday challenge - Brotherly.

In the spirit of the season

None of the shots I took the other night were quite what I'd hoped for, but these looked better as pseudo ornaments. Ho ho ho and all that jazz!

Peace

Peace is what I see
when I look into your eyes

Peace is what I feel
when I hold you in my arms

Peace is what I hear
when your soft breath reaches my ears

Would that the world be so simple
that we could all share the joy of Peace

Does anyone really know what time it is?

Time (echo effect) keeps on slipping, slipping...

Baby it's cold outside (though the temp rose up a little past the single digits as the day wore on).
Coupla different day parts here, but it all looks the same. Gray skies and steadily accumulating snow. Maybe not a Nor'easter, but still a good day to stay inside.

Bike rack photo submitted for Macro Day - Outside.

Friday morning during a light snow - heavy snow to follow today

Friday morning - light snow melts on the windshield. Morning is usually a dirty word for me, but since I had to be up (waiting to pick up some family portraits) I figured I might as well get the camera out.

Top shot submitted to Shutterday Bokeh Challenge.

Working hard at the American Folk Festival!

These girls were working hard to encourage festival-goers to part with their money for some blueberry smoothies with lots of healthful qualities. They convinced me!

Submitted for Photo Sharks challenge 'work'.

Thursday Challenge - Red

Hmm... I don't think I've photographed anything red down by the Stillwater River. Guess I'll use this photo from the 2006 National Folk Festival in Richmond, Virginia. The James River is a stone's throw (or two) away.

Lens Day - Cold

Another shot of the Stillwater River in Orono. I gotta get out a little more and take some shots of some other water features!

Post-production effects can be useful

I'm not sure I'd consider myself to be a beginning photographer any more, but there's still a ton of stuff for me to learn. That's especially true for learning about what my camera is capable of. So, please excuse me for thinking aloud in an effort to expand my knowledge.

There are number of things I didn't like about the originals I took of this scene. I could pick them apart, but mostly the shots didn't come out as well as I'd envisioned them. After trying to get the shot I wanted, I realized that in order to do so I'd have likely had to destroy the spider web in order to get the angle and clarity I was hoping for, but then the shot would no longer be there. Since I was unable to squeeze either myself or the camera into the tiny gap between the web and the window, I tried a little toying around with some effects (ending up using just one in the end) and came up with, what I feel is, a cool result from a so-so original image.

Photo Sharks Challenge - Morning

A morning shot of the Stillwater River from this past summer. The trees from my previous post (Unique's Wood Challenge) are either at the very left of this shot or just outside of it. Minutiae - it's not just for breakfast any more.

Trying for something else, but got a Moody Monday photo for 'chaotic'

Used a flash when I knew it wouldn't work for what I was trying to capture, but I got a photo worth submitting to the Moody Monday challenge for Chaotic.

Old technology (catching up with Tuesday's 'cardboard' challenge)

Old Technology bursts at the seams in hopes of making a revelatory announcement after 20 years of meditation. Alas, Old Technology discovered that even though his language could still be used, no devices were readily available that would allow him to be interpreted. He shuffled off to his dusty corner, resigned to being entombed and to the fact that the best he could do would be to stare blankly and scream silently at the few who manage to discover the existence of his tiny concrete resting place.
