Sugar Blue -Time Out Pub, Rockland, Maine October 17th, 2011

When I saw, many months ago, that Paul Benjamin had booked Sugar Blue for 10/17/2011 I was a little bummed (perhaps more concerned than bummed, but still...). I already had plans to be in Virginia for the previous week and wouldn't be able to leave until early that Monday to return to Maine. On top of that, I also had plans to travel to New York on the 18th. The logistics (and possible travel complications) could easily have worked against me. The travel gods were smiling on me, though, as I pulled into the Time Out Pub parking lot just in time. I didn't miss a note, though, if memory serves, I heard the first few notes on my walk from the car. At any rate, after Sugar Blue's wonderful set back in

March I was determined to make it back in time for the show. I'm happy I did!

D.W. Gill & The Blue Phantoms - Time Out Pub, Rockland, Maine October 10th, 2011

I'm pretty sure that the times I've seen D.W. Gill in the past have been as parts of festivals. At the Maine Blues Festival in Naples or as part of the festivities surrounding the North Atlantic Blues Festival, notably the club crawl. This may well have been the first time I've seen him gig where he was the primary attraction. Playing in Rockland also has to be somewhat of a treat for D.W., since he got his start in life there back in 1954.

Anthony Gomes -Time Out Pub, Rockland, Maine October 7th, 2011

Anthony Gomes broke up the usual Monday Night Blues schedule by appearing at the Time Out Pub in Rockland on a Friday. Anthony has appeared quite regularly (yes, another performer that my old night schedule kept me from being able to see in the club) in Rockland in the past, performing at the North Atlantic Blues Festival and in the club. Anthony is another performer (like Mr. Nick from earlier in the week) who I'd only managed to see outdoors prior to the Time Out Pub gig. To say that Anthony is a high-energy performer is, perhaps, a bit of an understatement. He'll be back for the 2012 North Atlantic Blues Festival. Looking forward to seeing him again!

Mr. Nick & The Dirty Tricks - Time Out Pub, Rockland, Maine October 3rd, 2011

(Nick David (a.k.a. Mr. Nick), "Lonely" Gus Carlson, Teddy B. (Bukowski) and Rick Rousseau ) at the imbedded link. As they're fond of saying on stage, be very careful if you're typing out the name of their website!

We've been able to see Mr. Nick perform several times over the past few years, mostly at the White Mountain Boogie N' Blues Festival where he played with his Blues Mafia and also joined in on harp with Albert Castiglia on a killer Junior Wells (Castiglia's former boss) tune. This is actually the first time we've ever seen Mr. Nick indoors. Cool stuff!

Candye Kane - Time Out Pub, Rockland, Maine, September 26th, 2011

Candye Kane is another performer who makes regular stops at the Time Out Pub and, due to my previous work schedule, we had been unable to see prior to this visit. We did have the pleasure of seeing her perform at the White Mountain Boogie N' Blues Festival a couple of years ago. It was a really cool to be able to see her perform at the pub!

Girls With Guitars - Time Out Pub, Rockland, Maine, September 19th, 2011

We've been fortunate enough to have seen two previous incarnations of the Girls With Guitars Blues Caravan (with Sue Foley, Deborah Coleman & Roxanne Potvin at the North Atlantic Blues Festival and with Foley, Coleman and Dani Wilde at the White Mountain Boogie n' Blues Festival. It's hard to believe that those were both back in 2007!). Wilde was featured this time along with Samantha Fish and Cassie Taylor. Fish and Wilde will be teaming up with Victoria Smith for gigs in early 2012. What a great show to have in such an intimate setting!

Andrew "Jr. Boy" Jones - Time Out Pub, Rockland, Maine, September 12th, 2011

Andrew "Jr. Boy" Jones is a regular visitor to the Time Out Pub. This was his only 2011 (after visiting us twice in 2010) visit. As usual, it was a good time! This time he was joined by Kerrie Lepai as a guest vocalist.

Harper - Time Out Pub, Rockland, Maine, September 5th, 2011

Due to the schedule shuffling that hurricane Irene caused during the American Folk Festival, we did not make it down to Rockland for David Maxwell's Monday Night Blues gig on 8/29. We did, however, resume our Monday Night ritual on Labor Day with Harper and Midwest Kind. So great to have him back in Rockland!

Curtis Salgado - Time Out Pub, Rockland, Maine, August 22nd, 2011

On Sunday August 21st Curtis Salgado and his big band were scheduled to headline the second day at the White Mountain Boogie 'n Blues Festival in New Hampshire. A thunderstorm rolled through Thornton that ended up putting a damper on that plan. Since they were booked for the Time Out Pub on Monday, August 22nd, we were fortunate enough to be able to catch them the next night. We had a great time! I'm just disappointed that several thousand Boogie fans didn't get to have the pleasure of having the festival closed, in what would have been incredibly fine style, by Curtis and his band.

T.J. Wheeler & The Smokers - Time Out Pub, Rockland, Maine, August 15th, 2011

T. J. Wheeler's been a fixture on the New England Blues scene for some time. I first got to see him many years ago at the Portsmouth Blues Festival (an event for which he was one of the primary organizers) and have since seen him at the White Mountain Boogie & Blues Festival. Although I've been able to catch his performances a number of times now, this is the first time I'd seen him perform indoors. It was a lot of fun! You might be able to to tell from the banjo photos that T.J. brought his own flavor of the blues along with him!
